Frequently Asked Questions

Before Your Session

How do I reserve a photo session?

Once you have decided on a day and time (sunrise or sunset), check the Maui Island Photography calendar for availability or contact me for more information.

To reserve your session, you will need to sign your contract and pay a $50 deposit. Once I receive both, the session time is yours!

What happens next?

Depending on when you booked your photo session, I will email you a confirmation one week prior to your shoot. The confirmation will go over the date, time, location, and remaining payment information.

The day before your session, I will double-check the weather and tide information for your chosen location. At that point, I will pull the beach permit and confirm your session again. I will also send you a text to make sure everything is great on your end!

The day of your session, arrive at your destination at the previously discussed time. We will have a few minutes for meet & greet, and go over any questions you may have, and then it is time for the fun! I will bring a cooler with water, it is hot here and there is always enough time for a water break!

What should I wear for my session?

A portrait session is a great time to dress up and wear something amazing! You also want to be comfortable, so check out the Beach Portraits: What to Wear for more information on how to prep for your session.

I would like to set up a surprise during the photo shoot, can you make that happen?

Absolutely! A tiny birthday cake, festive leis & flowers, or perhaps a surprise engagement session or vow renewal, you dream it, let’s plan it!

After Your Session

How long do my photos take?

For most sessions, your photos will be available online four to five days after your photo shoot. Allow extra time during high season, or for longer or specialty sessions. Because even five days can feel like a long time, I will send you a sneak peek before then with a couple of photos from your shoot!

Do I get the images digitally? How many?

You will receive your images in a personal, online gallery. The digital photos are high-resolution and accessible to download with your unique password.

Your gallery will also be easy to share on social media or with friends and family if you wish.

How do I order prints?

One-click ordering is available for high-quality prints directly from your online gallery.

Do I have rights do my photos?

Maui Island Photography gives clients unlimited license to use, share and print their images, but a client cannot sell or give rights to a third party.

How do I share my photos with others?

Your online gallery will have a URL that you can share with friends and family. Share your password with anyone you wish to give them access to download your images. Anyone can order prints directly from your gallery.

Can I order my photos from anywhere?

Your gallery orders can be shipped anywhere in the United States and Canada. For other countries, email me at

General Questions

Do you offer any referral incentives?

I do! If you refer someone, make sure to tell them to mention your name when booking!

What is your photography style?

I tend to shoot a combination of documentary-style photography and posed portraiture. I want to tell the story of your session, capturing genuine moments and candid interactions, with a few posed close-ups in-between. I can give as little or as much direction as you want, most of my clients ask for some direction throughout the shoot. The end result is a blended collection of candid and posed portraits of your experience.

Do you have a studio location?

I do not offer a studio location. I work from a home office, which allows me to keep costs down for my clients, while truly providing a unique photography experience every session.

Do you have insurance?

I do have insurance for peace of mind not only for me, but for my clients as well. I am also registered with the Maui DLNR to easily pull beach permits for portrait sessions.
